Our Story: How We Became Florida’s Finest Tutors
“The Idea”
As many great adventures do, our journey at Florida’s Finest Tutors began with a dream. Our founder, Evan DeCosta, first began tutoring as a high-school student looking to distinguish himself in the college admissions process. Through this experience, he was able to combine his passion for helping others with his passion for academics.
“The Aha Moment ”
During a session with one of his very first students, Evan experienced what he calls his “aha moment”. While reviewing Chemistry homework with a client, he noticed that his student was getting frustrated by not understanding the material. However, Evan did not give up; instead, he began trying another method of showing the student how to complete the problems. When shown in this new way, the student immediately grasped the concept significantly better. Recognizing the immediate change in the student’s understanding, Evan recognized the importance of HOW the material is delivered to each student. This moment of clarity sparked a desire to study how the brain receives and retains information. This spark is ultimately what lead to the creation of Florida’s Finest Tutors.
“Florida’s Finest Tutors is Born”
After graduating in 2018 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Evan entered into the workforce while continuing to tutor in his free time. At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, an article was released by the federal department of education stating the amount of information retention lost due to schools’ response to Covid-19 would result in an average 3% reduction in overall lifetime earnings of active students. This article gave Evan clear invocation to utilize his skills to help as many students as possible turn dreams into reality through education despite less-than-ideal learning circumstances. This resulted in Florida’s Finest Tutors being founded in August of 2020.

After compiling a team of passionate, experienced educators, the work to “Turn Dreams Into Reality Through Education” began. Since our founding, we have spent thousands of hours helping our students to become stronger critical thinkers and improve their academic performance.
